Richard Nel 2

It is inevitable that the Spring rains will put a damper on things however, we still had a great turn-out of 84 players at Mount Edgecombe Country Club (The Woods) on Monday 9th November 2020. Considering the recent amount of welcome rain we have had, the course had drained well even though it was understandably wet underfoot in places. The fairways were lush and the greens in top condition, if a little slow because of the wet conditions. Mount Edgecombe is always a challenge and from what I heard, the par 5 fourteenth hole was responsible for quite a few big numbers being carded that might well have ruined an otherwise good score.

The intermittent light on-and-off rain did not seem to affect the ability of most players as scores in all divisions were pretty good on the day. In the A Division, an on-form Richard Nel took first place with a three over par gross 73 counting out newcomer to the Senior ranks, Lyall McNeill, who had to settle for second, also with a gross of 73.

Best nett in the A Division went to Steve Cullen with a score of 74 gross less 6 h/capp = net 68. Runner-up was Hennie Heynes with 75 gross less 5 h/capp = nett 70.

Good scores were returned in the B Division with Mike Sekobane taking first place with a score of 44 individual stableford points playing off a 17 h/capp. Well done Mike ! Second place went to Butch Alyward with 36 points and third was Ronnie Scheochand also with 36 points (counted out).

Two places were paid out in the C Division with Imraan Smeerdon taking first place with 39 individual stableford points playing off a 21 h/capp. Close behind in second spot was Cecil Prinsloo with 38 stableford points.

All the scores for the day can be accessed via the Senior TAB and under "News" on the drop-down menu then under Senior Downloads on the left hand side of the page.

There being no prizegiving due to the current Covid-19 Regulations regarding gatherings, prizewinners will receive their vouchers via email.

The next game on the schedule is to be played at Beachwood Country Club on Tuesday 24th November. Entry forms have been sent out so get your entries in to Gail at the KZNGU Office soonest.

Many thanks to our sponsor for their continued support.
